FEBRUARY 2010 NEWSLETTER

BUILDING BRIDGES
Building Partnerships with Parents, Children,
Teachers, and Community

Progress Reports
Progress Reports will be going home very soon.  When you receive your child’s, it is very important that you review it carefully and be sure to speak with your child’s teacher if you have any questions. The teachers have been working hard at supporting the children’s progress within all developmental domains and are eager to share their accomplishments and goals for each child with you.  Likewise, we welcome your ideas and input on your child’s development and learning. Parents are necessary partners in the educational process.  A strong home/school connection helps each child to succeed.

Family Craft Night
A family craft night will be held on March 2nd, from 6:30-8:00.  A variety of craft activities for all ages will be offered along with pizza and cookie decorating.  We hope you can join us for some creative fun and tasty treats. Please RSVP to Fern

Signs by Angee
Angee Earle will continue to visit with our toddlers.  For the past few months, her music and motion program has been loved by our youngest learners.  She incorporates sign language within all of her programming In March, she will be presenting a series of sign language workshops for teachers.  Parents are welcome to attend.  Please see Jen if you would like more information.

Andy the Armadillo
Andy the Armadillo from the Texas Roadhouse will be visiting on February 17th at 10:00 to drop off some books for our center.  The costumed character should bring many smiles to our young faces.
The more important message however, is that reading is fun!

Teachers as Learners
Our teaching staff should be congratulated for their continued professional growth.  20 members of our teaching staff are enrolled in a college course in Educational Designs held here at BDN!

Mardi Gras Madness
Mardi Gras Madness, our annual adult fundraising event will be held at The Shaw’s Center on February 27th.  The evening will feature live music, roving entertainment, Cajun cuisine, and much much more!
Tickets are $60 – buy 3 get 1 free. BDN parents and staff may purchase 2 tickets at a discounted price of $35. This year, all of the proceeds will go towards the BDN Scholarship and BDN Lends a Hand funds.
If you would like to be involved, there are many ways to help.  Volunteers are needed to help with set up, hosting the event, and clean up.  Also, we are seeking local businesses to place ads in the program book and sponsor the event.  Please contact Patti if you would like more information

Dental Health Month
February is Dental Health Month.  This is great time to keep in mind the importance of dental care.  Brushing and flossing each day along with regular dental check–ups and a nutritious diet will help to keep your child’s teeth healthy and strong.   All of the children brush their teeth daily at BDN. For additional oral health information please visit www.oralhealthinfo@aap.org

BRR!! It's cold outside!
Please remember to dress your child appropriately for the weather.  Winter coats, hats, mittens, and socks help to protect us from the elements.  Young children rely on us to guide them in this along with all other healthy habits.
