Brockton Day Nursery Earns National Reaccreditation

Brockton, Mass – Brockton Day Nursery (BDN) earned its 5-year reaccreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In March of 1991, Brockton Day Nursery became the first early childhood program in the Brockton area to be accredited.  The reaccreditation allows the organization to continue a long tradition of excellence.  NAEYC is recognized as one of the nation’s leading organizations of early childhood professionals.

NAEYC Accreditation is a nationwide recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. More than 6,600 programs are currently accredited by NAEYC and 811 programs are located in Massachusetts.  NAEYC is committed to utilizing the newest studies and analysis on positive child outcomes to ensure young children continue receiving the highest-quality care and education possible.

“We are very excited to receive the news of our reaccreditation from NAEYC.  We have continually strived to improve and enhance our program to meet all of the core requirements of the state and our national accreditor,” said Vanessa Leite, Executive Director of Brockton Day Nursery. “NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences possible.”

Patti Plummer-Wilson, BDN Education Director, said “We are thrilled to have been awarded NAEYC reaccreditation.  This is truly the mark of a high quality early childhood program.” The reaccreditation is valid for 5 years, from 2013-2018.

“This ensures parents are bringing their children to a high-quality program and facility,” Plummer-Wilson said. “It takes a lot of work to get reaccredited. I’m proud the staff put in the work, and the recognition shows we offer quality early education and care.”

To earn NAEYC Accreditation, Brockton Day Nursery went through an extensive self-assessment process, measuring the program and its services against the 10 (is this number correct) NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and more than 400 related Accreditation Criteria. The program received NAEYC Accreditation after an on-site visit by an NAEYC assessor to ensure that the program meets each of the program standards. NAEYC-accredited programs are also subject to unannounced visits during their accreditation/reaccreditation.

The installation was judged in 10 categories: relationships, curriculum, teaching, assessment of child progress, health, teachers, families, community relationships, physical environment and leadership and management. Leite said that BDN met standards in all categories and met or exceeded 100 percent in seven categories.

“Exceeding 100 percent in a category means you exceed the required standards for that category by also implementing emerging best practices that are goals to attain but not yet a requirement.” Leite said. “We continue to focus on enhancing and improving our program at Brockton Day Nursery and meeting any future state and NAEYC standards.”
